Greatest Broncos Quarterback of All-Time: Peyton Manning or John Elway?

The greatest quarterback in the history of the Denver Broncos is Peyton Manning -- not John Elway.

In all fairness, it's not even close either. Elway had a total of one elite season in his 16 year career -- the 33.0 QBS he posted in 1993. He played well, earning a 21.0 in 1996 and an 18.0 in 1997. When you get past those outliers, it's all down hill -- including seasons that range from average (12.5 in 1995) to horrendous (-3.5 in 1992). Manning has only played two seasons in Denver, but his combined QBS in 2012 and 2013 has already eclipsed what Elway earned in a total of 13 seasons combined.

John Elway (13 of 16 seasons)

  • 1987: 17.0
  • 1995: 12.5
  • 1990: 11.0
  • 1985: 8.5
  • 1998: 8.0
  • 1994: 7.0
  • 1986: 5.0
  • 1991: 3.0
  • 1983: 0.0
  • 1984: 0.0
  • 1988: -1.0
  • 1989: -2.5
  • 1992: -3.5

  • Total: 65.0

Peyton Manning (2012-13)
